Daniel “Dan” Norbert Zeitler, Sr., age 64, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 after a lengthy battle with familial amyloid cardiomyopathy, surrounded by family at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.
Dan was born on May 16, 1953 in Sharon, Pennsylvania to Norbert and Patricia (Duffy) Zeitler. Dan graduated Kennedy Christian High School in Sharon, earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Penn State University and a master of science degree in mathematics from Youngstown State University, and also completed doctoral coursework in mathematics and taught at Kent State University.
In 1983, Dan moved to Columbus, Ohio to begin employment at Chemical Abstract Services, where he worked for the following 33 years, most recently as a Systems Engineer, until his retirement at the end of 2016.
Dan was an avid reader and an active person who enjoyed boating, cycling, hiking, bird-watching, and being outside in nature. He also enjoyed studying math, walking the family pugs, and spending time with his family. Dan was a member of St. Andrew Parish in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
Preceded in death by his wife Norene, his parents Norbert and Patricia, and his brother John, Dan is greatly missed by his children, Katie (fiancé Stephen Hruby) and Daniel (Amy), by his siblings Bill (Nancy), Mary Lieberman (Mike), James (Kathleen Joint), Helen, Joe (Rose-Marie Drake), Bob (Caty), Ed (Cindy), Meg, Patti Lizotte (Ray), and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends immediately following service until 4 P.M. Saturday.
