Betty Lou Jasper, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 10, 1930 and is survived by her husband of 71 years, Ted F. Jasper.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Lillian (Smith) and Peter Thomas, and siblings Mary (LaPointe), Martha, Helen (Rohrer), Dorothy (Oliver), George, John, and Father Ted Thomas. Betty is survived by siblings Jim (Doris), Joe (Pat), Leo (Gerry) Thomas and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Betty grew up in Italian Village. Behind the Wonder Bread Bakery she would grow, graduate from Holy Rosary, meet her husband and embark on a remarkable life to come. Betty was known for raising a village – approximately 50 some kids they say, including her brother-in-law Chuck. To those who knew and loved her, Betty had many nicknames; Aunt Betty Lou, Booby, and Boo to name a few.
Through her contagious humor, uncanny wit, and love of life she found comedy and spread laughter to those around her, which they then spread to others. She enjoyed gardening, raising her brothers, slot machines, penny-ante poker and ice cream drumsticks, despite the time of day.
At age 15, she and her sister Dorothy started working at their dad’s bar, ‘Pete’s’ – until the local police stopped in. Betty then began working with Wolverine Insurance for 30 years; then onto Hoofstetter Brothers, and finally retired from her brother’s company, J.E.Thomas Development Company.
Most of all, Betty enjoyed her life and her husband; whether spending time at their farm, and hosting holiday events or toiling away in front of the slot machine, she was in for, and always had a ‘party of a time’, spreading joy and love.
Betty’s Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00am, Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 20 E. Dominion Street, Columbus, 43214. Guests will be received from 9:00am to 10:00am that morning. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Anthony Church, 1300 Urban Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43229, in Betty’s name.
