Betty Bopp Busch

Betty Bopp Busch, 93, was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 21, 1920. Betty passed peacefully at home in Lancaster, Ohio on January 7, 2014. Betty was the “eldest” daughter of Eva (Braun) and August Bopp.

Betty was a “Sacred Heart girl”. She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Detroit from kindergarten through high school. She subsequently graduated from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City in June of 1942 and two weeks later married Major Chester (Chet) C. Busch. She and Chet moved from Detroit to East Tawas in 1948 to establish Bopp Busch Manufacturing Company. Betty was a loving wife for 63 years and devoted mother to her four children. When asked what is most important, she would reply, “Family and faith.” She enjoyed golf and was proud of her 9 hole championship. She was an accomplished artist, both in watercolor and needlepoint, and an avid reader. She loved nature and would marvel at the spotting of a deer, a chickadee, cardinal or other wildlife. She and her family were long time members of Holy Family Parish in East Tawas, Michigan, and former members of Sombrero Country Club in Marathon, FL where she spent many happy winters. She is survived by her son Charles C. Busch of Colrain, MA,, daughter Mary Beth “Mo” (David) Meuse of Lancaster, OH, son Robert (Anna) Busch of Ft. Myers, FL and William (Debbie) Busch of East Tawas, MI. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, who lovingly called her Mammy. Lisa (Chris) Brooks of Upper Arlington, OH, Chad (Paige) Meuse of Ross, CA, Peter (Lisa) Meuse of Gahanna, OH., Julie (Nat) Matthews of Phoenix, AZ, Michael (Jennifer) Busch of East Tawas, MI, Becky Busch of Denver, CO, Wade (Tammy) Towns of Charlotte, MI, Matt Towns of Ft. Worth, TX, Kathy Busch of Alameda, CA and August Busch of East Tawas, MI. She loved babies and was blessed with a 14 great grandchildren: David Brooks, Chloe, Ella and Oliver Meuse, Madelyn, Emmy and Charlotte Meuse; Jack, Ava and Truman Busch, Josie and Thatcher Matthews, and Gage and Paige Towns.

She is survived by her sisters Mary Lou Murphy Connolly and Jane Decker, both of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Visitation will be 4 to 6 pm on Friday, January 10 at Buresh Funeral Home, 411 Whittemore St., Tawas City, Mi 48763. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 11 at Holy Family Church, 516 W. Lincoln St., East Tawas, MI. Donations may be made to Holy Family School, 411 Wilkinson St., East Tawas, MI 48730. Arrangements locally by Schoedinger Midtown Chapel.
