Bert William Wallace, resident of Upper Arlington, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 22nd at the age of 85. Bert was a lifetime resident of Columbus, Ohio and was a proud graduate of the 1949 class of North High School. He earned his accounting degree from The Ohio State University in 1952 and went on to become a CPA. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base from 1953-1955. He worked at Arthur Young and Peat Marwick then served as treasurer and vice president of First Columbus Corporation before founding the CPA firm of Greene and Wallace, Inc in 1966. Bert was a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Ohio Society of CPAs where he served as president of the Columbus Chapter and as a director of the Ohio Society. He also served as past trustee and chairman of the Ohio Society of CPAs Educational Foundation. Bert had an entrepreneurial spirit, and was a principal owner and officer of several service companies outside of the accounting profession including Allied Roto-Rooter, GandW Inc, and Columbus Fasteners Corp. He also served his community as an active member of the YBMC, long time board member and treasurer of the Columbus Jazz Arts Group, treasurer of the North High Alumni Club, and director and treasurer of Hospital Audiences. Bert was fortunate enough to meet Sylvia Zoog, the love of his life, in 10th grade at North High School and was happily married to her until her passing in 2001. It brings great peace to his family knowing that they have been reunited. Some of Bert and Sylvia's most treasured memories were spending time with family and friends at their Crystal Lake home in northern Michigan. Bert was preceded in death by Sylvia Zoog Wallace, his parents Charles Wallace and Winifred Schneider Wallace and his brother Don. He will be deeply missed by his children Greg (Cindy) Wallace, Karen (Mike) Burke, Donna Wallace, Ric (Tammy) Wallace and Laurie (Barry) Markwick; grandchildren Eric Wallace, Lainie Burke (Dave) Rosenthal, Steve Burke, Beth Wallace, Emily Wallace (Rob) Slembarski, Christopher (Felicia) Burke, Amber Wallace, Kathy Burke, Nicole Wallace (Travis) Ward, Erica Wallace, Sean Wallace, Ellie Markwick, and Ava Markwick; great-grandchildren Talia Burke Rosenthal, Everett Burke Rosenthal, Toby Burke, Liam Ward and Margot Burke and many nieces and nephews. We will celebrate his life with visitation Monday, August 28th from 5-8 pm at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel at 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, 43221. Funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, August 29th at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Road, Columbus, 43220 with interment to follow at Union Cemetery, 4439 Olentangy River Road, Columbus.
