Robert B. “Mike” Carmichael, 76, of Columbus, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024. He was born July 21, 1947 in Shelbyville to Robert T. and Opal (Brown) Carmichael. They preceded him in death.
Mike was a veteran of the US Air Force Reserves and a member of the American Legion Post 24. He was employed by Cummins, retiring after 52 years of service.
Mike was an avid gun collector and hunter. He also enjoyed fishing, classic cars, westerns and reading.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Dehner; grandson, Bailey Bowling; and a sister, Joyce Smiley.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Linda A. Carmichael of Columbus; children, Cherry (Rich) Bowling and Jeremy Carmichael, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Samantha Branum, Ashlee Dehner, Joshua Ruble and Jacob Ruble, all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Landon Hardy, Harmonee Cameron, Alexa Ruble and Jassie Grissom, all of Columbus; and siblings, Steve Carmichael, Mark Carmichael, Paul (Wanda) Carmichael and Janice Carmichael, all of Columbus. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Myers-Reed Chapel, with Pastor Gordon Tilley officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4- 8 PM and Thursday from 12:00 – 1:00 at the funeral home.
