Pauline Enola Barnes, 91, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday November 12, 2024 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Ms. Barnes was born May 10, 1933 in Columbus, OH, to Paul and Annie (Fries) Wright. After the loss of her parents at an early age, Pauline was lovingly raised by her uncle and his wife, William C. and Carolyn (Tucker) Wright in Cleveland, OH. It was in Cleveland where she met and married Delmar Barnes in 1953 and later moved to Columbus, IN in 1967. Although they would later divorce, they remained united in raising their children. Pauline was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a former choir member. She was a member of the Columbus Philharmonic and was instrumental in its development. She also held memberships with the ACLU, NAACP, the Senior Coalition, and the Democratic National Coalition. She was an accomplished seamstress, a lover of music and the arts, and a homemaker. Survivors include her loving son, Michael Barnes of Indianapolis; daughter, Cynthia Barnes (Harold Zuckerman) of Santa Monica, CA; and grandchildren, Jordan and Alicia Barnes, both of Indianapolis. Also surviving is her long-time friend and caregiver, Edward Thifault of Columbus. Her birth and adopted parents, a sister, Anna Lee Wright, and a daughter-in-law, Tamara (Jordan) Barnes, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be announced at a later date at First Presbyterian Church. Please leave a fond memory of Pauline at www.Myers-Reed.com. Myers-Reed Chapel is serving the Barnes family.
