Mrs. Nichols was born February 6, 1932 in High Wycombe, England to Herbert and Rose (Worley) Hallasey. She met and married the love of her life, Paschel (Nick) Nichols on January 2, 1954. He was a member of the United States Air Force. They transferred to the United States eventually settling in Columbus, Indiana and Joan later became a United States citizen.
They had two children, Gary Hoover and Vera May.
Mrs. Nichols was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of the Lakeview Church of Christ for a number of years. She also co-founded the Cosmopolitan Club which was created for foreign-born women who were transplanted to Columbus because of their husband’s jobs. She also developed and maintained a “Teacher’s Resource Center” while attending First Christian Church.
Survivors include her son, Gary Nichols of Denver, Colorado; Daughter, Vera (John) Wilderman of Columbus, Indiana; Grandsons Christopher (Andrea) and Patrick (Samantha) Wilderman; and Great-Grandchildren Madilynn and Zachary Wilderman and Andrew Wilderman.
Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Paschel (Nick) Nichols, parents and a sister, Vera May Whiting.
A private Graveside service has been planned.
Hathaway-Myers is serving the Nichols family.
