She married Gordon W. Heavner Sr. on October 17, 1945 in Los Angeles, California, and he preceded her in death on October 13, 2004.
Barbra was a long time member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Columbus Chapter #339.
She was a homemaker for most of her life, but worked as a dressmaker for a number of years. She was also a talented author with four published books.
Barbra is survived by her sons, George A. Heavner of New Hampshire and Gregory S. Heavner of Columbus; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Gordon W. Heavner Jr. and Gilbert S. Heavner; sister, Norma J. Masek; and brothers, Martin J. Scott and Lee Scott.
A funeral service for Barbra will be held Thursday, January 4 at 1 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with an Eastern Star service beginning at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at a later date at Lynches Chapel Cemetery in Alto, Texas. Friends may gather for visitation from 11 am until the time of the service on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
