Wynelle H. Powell was born November 27, 1928, to the late Julia Rowe and John Walton Hendley in Berrien County, Georgia where she would spend her younger days growing up on a farm learning discipline and how to be nurturing. Mrs. Powell would take her love of nurturing others and become a Registered Nurse who would devote over thirty years of her life helping others. She was someone who sought after God’s heart and fellowshipped with her church family and sang with the choir at Morningside Presbyterian Church. At her home church, she was part of the shut-in ministry and visited those who were home bound for over 17 years. She spent eighteen years volunteering with Callaway Gardens, and she was a member of the Columbus Lions Club for fifteen years. When Mrs. Powell wasn’t cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, New York Yankees, or watching golf which Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson were her favorite golfers, she was at her happiest when it came to traveling. She would take a trip to Alaska and three to Hawaii—always learning more and maybe coming home with another owl figurine or two to add to her collection.
Aside from her parents, Mrs. Powell is also preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-eight years, Bythel Haynes Powell.
She is survived by: her son, Tommy (Kim) Powell; two sisters, Brewnell Thaw of St. Simons Island, Georgia and Nanell and her husband, Reverend F.D. McWhorter of Newnan, Georgia; a grandson, Mark Haynes Powell; and many special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Georgia Lions Camp, 5626 Laura Walker Rd. Waycross, GA 31503
