William "Bill" H. Quick, age 95, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024. Bill was born in Wellston, Ohio on May 27, 1929 to the late Selma Irwin Quick and Virgil Quick. Bill faithfully served his country in the United States Army, joining at the young age of 17. He served honorably in World War II and the Korean Conflict. While he was stationed in Germany he met the love of his life, Annelise E. Schmidt. They married in May of 1951 in the town of Mainz, Germany. Upon his retirement from the Army in 1966 he and his family settled in the Columbus area. Bill worked for Burnham Van Services as a long distance truck driver. After Burnham he owned and operated the Union 76 gas station on Buena Vista road for several years before going back to driving for Joe Ryan Trucking until his final retirement to spend more time with his loving wife, Anna. In Bill’s spare time, he was passionate about classic cars and his passion led him to becoming a member of the Model A Club. Bill’s 1930 Model A was his joy to take to classic car shows in the area. Bill loved his family, they were his universe, he also enjoyed the company of his smallest family member and canine companion “Angel”.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Selma and Virgil Quick, his son, Norbert Quick; his daughter, Cora Quick Skipper, and his grandson, William James Quick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Annelise Quick; his daughters: Virgina Quick Saxton (Donnie) and Betty Quick Boutin (Charlie); his sister, Nancy Wilkinson (Jim); his grandchildren: Matt Quick, Chris Quick, Annalisa Schelling (Stefan), and Jeremy Skipper; his great-grandchildren: Caleb, Braydon, Caroline, and Devin; and a host of other family members.
A graveside service with military honors for Bill will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Family will visit with friends after the service in the cemetery at graveside.
