Watson A. Cumby passed away Friday, March 3rd, at Piedmont North Hospital, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA.
Watson was born in Lagrange, GA, to his late parents, Watson Andrew Cumby, Sr, and Nena Arlene Traylor Cumby. He graduated from Troup County High School and began working as a Pipe Fitter for the Local 52 Pipe Fitters Union in Montgomery, AL. Watson loved his family, especially his wife of 25 years, Sandra. He enjoyed riding his Harley and watching Nascar, Alabama football, and Braves baseball. He was an avid gardener; his family and friends will miss his beautiful tomatoes and cucumbers this summer.
Along with his parents, Watson is preceded in death by his daughter Jessica Cumby and son Andrew Cumby. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his sister, Betty Ragsdale of Montgomery, AL; daughters, Beth (Dallas) Skelton and Mary Pat (Johnny) Rowland; son, Norman Todd; grandsons Daniel Orr, Matthew Orr, and Christian Dorey; granddaughter, Kailey Davis; nephew, Greg Goldsmith; and other family members.
