Terry Eugene Slocumb, age 77, died Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Columbus Hospice House. He was born June 1, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia. He was the son of the late John Thomas and Helon M. Slocumb. He attended Jordan Vocational High School. Terry met the love of his life, Patricia, in 1959. They were later married in 1961 and celebrated 53 years of marriage together.
He worked for 46 years in the Glass business as a Glazier and retired from Muscogee Glass Company. Mr. Slocumb loved to work with his hands. There wasn’t anything he could not do, from wood working, to building model trains & tracks and restoring Ford Mustangs. He even built each of his three Grandchildren a large personalized wooden toy box that easily could later be turned into hope chests as they got older. He could pick up and play the guitar, mandolin, or a banjo without any instructions or lessons. He loved to get in the car & ride, traveling especially to the mountains with his wife. He also loved sitting around playing music (aka picking) with his friends.
Mr. Slocumb was preceded in death by his late wife, Patricia Slocumb. Survivors include his children: Debra Slocumb, Donald Slocumb & wife Deborah, and Dana Slocumb. He has three grandchildren: Chase Slocumb, Carson Slocumb and Cayden Slocumb. He is also survived by his brother, Ray Slocumb. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 20th from 6:00-8:00pm in the Wildwood Room at Stiffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 1:00pm in Parkhill Cemetery.
