Devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Byrd was also a faithful follower of Jesus Christ all her life. She loved to sing in choirs and, with talent inherited from her father, Mildred could really thump the upright bass!
She loved the Columbus churches she attended throughout the years from North Highland Assembly to Evangel Church, and eventually to Edgewood Assembly nearer her home. Making friends everywhere she went, God used Mildred Byrd’s devotion to Jesus to bring many to a deeper relationship with himself. It is sometimes said that Mildred had a red phone which Jesus answered on the other end.
