Juanita Jo (JJ) Barton, age 67, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021. A committal service for Juanita will be held Monday, May 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Highway 165, Fort Mitchell, Alabama.
JJ was born on October 26, 1953 in Talihina, Oklahoma. Shortly after graduation Juanita joined the Navy, she served from 1977 until 1981. She lived her life to the fullest and never let anything hold her back. JJ lived for many years in California and worked as a Sleep Tech for St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka. She knew and taught others the importance of taking things in stride and to realize what the “small things” are in life and how not to sweat them. This mindset allowed her to be a strong woman, who loved everyone and was loved by those that knew her. What she loved the most was her friends, family, and her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them engaging in conversation and laughing at the stories and antics of her grandchildren.
Juanita is preceded in death by: her mother, Bonnie Jo Powell.
Survivors include: two sons, John (René) Barton, Harrison Barton; three brothers, James (Julie) Powell, Harrison Powell, Woody Powell; a sister, Cordie Powell; seven grandchildren, Mikayla Adkins, Billy Daniel, Elizabeth Daniel, Madison Barton, Calypso Barton, little sis Dawn Giardina, Thomas Giardina, Shelby Mitchell, and many friends and friends of the family that will cherish her memory.
