SEDONA, AZ- John Barnett "Bart" Woodruff, Jr., of Sedona, AZ and Gulf Shores, AL died Tuesday, August 23rd in Phoenix. He was born in Columbus, Georgia on September 23, 1948, son of the late John Barnett Woodruff and Frances Stephenson Woodruff. He attended local schools and graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1966. Shortly after his enrollment at Auburn University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, he joined the U.S. Navy and served until 1973, graduating from Columbus State University in that same year. Mr. Woodruff was president of the Rosemont Shopping Center, Inc., Vice President of Woodcrest Enterprises, and Trustee Emeritus of the J.W. and Ethel I. Woodruff Foundation. He was a loving husband, father, son, uncle, brother, granddaddy, an avid Auburn fan, and loved spending time on the beach in Gulf Shores.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Woodruff was predeceased by a son, John "Jay" Barnett Woodruff, III and a brother, Stephen Barnett Woodruff. He is survived by his wife, Dean Bagley Woodruff of Sedona; daughter Elizabeth Bright Woodruff Owens and her husband Clint Patrick Owens of Sunnyside, NY; son Michael Mullin Woodruff and his wife Dana Parrott Woodruff of Atlanta; daughter Jill Woodruff King and her husband Jesse James King of Virginia Beach, VA; and stepson Jeremiah Duane Hundley of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his sister Katherine Woodruff Williams of Atlanta, a brother Chester Alexander Woodruff of Columbus, grandchildren Avery Elizabeth, Ansley Carol, Brannan Patrick Owens, and Miles Mullin Woodruff.
The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home on Sunday, August 28th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 29th at 11 a.m. in Parkhill Cemetery with the Reverend Chuck Hasty, Jr. officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home.
