John Marcus Barfield age 87 of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of his family and Columbus Hospice. The family will welcome guest for a visitation Thursday, March 2, 2023 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby at 11:00am with a Graveside Celebration of John’s Life and full Military Honors at 12:00 pm in Parkhill Cemetery.
John was born in Plant City, FL, the son of Marvin and Molly B. Barfield. John left High School to join the US Marine Corps and in 1954 and proposed to his life-long friend Annette Wise. John traveled all over the world in his service to our country before retiring after 23 years, and settled in Columbus. He was able to retire a second time as a fork lift operator for National Battery Co. John loved his family as they loved him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John is preceded in death by his adored wife, Annette; his parents; son, Jimmy Barfield; and sister, Ann Deal.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Cathy) Barfield, and John David Barfield; brother, Charlie Brown; grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends.
