Joel Edward Smith, Jr., age 45, of Tallahassee, FL. died Monday, August 2, 2021, at Tallahassee Memorial Center, Tallahassee, FL. Funeral services will be held in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Saturday, August 7th, with a private family burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, August 6th, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born September 20, 1975 in Columbus the son of Helen Marie Roque Smith and the late Joel Edward Smith, Sr. Joel graduated from Hardaway High School in 1994 and went on to join the Columbus Police Department for 7 years. Joel continued his education and graduated from Georgia State with a B.S. degree. Joel was a Senior Claims Supervisor at GEICO for the past 15 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved the beach.
Joel was a devoted father to his three children, son, Bradley Smith of Columbus, and two daughters, Kennedy and Stryker Smith of Navarre, FL. He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Helen and Marty Sanders of Cataula; his sister, Edith Smith of Columbus; nephew, Kayden and niece, Annabella Watson, both of Columbus.
