(USAF Ret) James “Jim” Edward Floyd, Jr., age 81, resident of Cataula, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Monday, July 10, 2017, 11 a.m. with Reverend John Fugh officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service until 12:30 pm. Private interment with full military honors will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Floyd, son of the late James Edward Floyd and Lucille Crowe Floyd, was born September 29, 1935 in Columbus. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Miller-Wilson Sunday School class. Jim was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his friends on the course. Mr. Floyd retired from the U.S. Air Force where he served honorably for 20 years. After his distinguished military career, he began a career in Civil Service at Fort Benning. For Jim, family came first. He loved his family and adored his wife June. He received much joy from his grandchildren. Jim was loved and adored by all that knew him and was always referred to as a loving gentle man.
Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Buster Floyd. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria June Floyd; two daughters, Denise Coburn and her husband MG David Coburn and Tina Ragland and her husband Joe Ragland; four grandchildren, Erin Sizemore and her husband Matthew, Dana Coburn, Joseph Ragland, and Mallory Ragland; great-grandchild, Collier Sizemore; many other relatives and friends.
