James Taylor Coppage, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 19, 2023. Jimmy was the son of the late Orvin Reese Coppage and Mary White Coppage. He was born and raised in Columbus, GA. He graduated from Columbus High School and went on to graduate from West Georgia College.
After college he married his high school sweetheart Janet Dimon Coppage. Together they had two daughters Claire Coppage Elrod and Mary Lynne Coppage Bohannon. Jimmy was an amazing husband, dad, granddaddy and friend. He will be missed beyond words.
Jimmy was an Agent Manager and Vice President of Duval-Bibb Company. He was a dedicated member of the Downtown Rotary. Jimmy served on the Board of Directors of the Haskins Foundation. He was also a member of Green Island Country Club and served as president for two terms. Jimmy’s lifelong love of golf began as a young boy. He was on both his high school and college golf teams. He loved many outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed time hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his three grandsons.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Coppage, sister Lynne Land (AJ), sister-in-law Martha Ann Coppage, daughters Claire Elrod (Jason) and Mary Lynne Bohannon, grandsons Blake Bohannon, Tyler Elrod and Walker Elrod as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Reese Coppage.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on January 27, 2023 at the Striffler-Hamby Chapel with Reverend Jonathan Moore of CityScape Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Internment will follow at Park Hill Cemetery.
