Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. with reverend Andy Johnston officiating. Interment with U.S. Marine Honors will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Jack was born in Houston County, AL. on August 24, 1921 to the late Wheatley H. Pierce and Cora Newton Pierce. Following the attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marines in defense of his great country where he served in the 1st Marine Division, supporting several campaigns throughout the Pacific until the end of WWII. After his military service, Jack retired from the Columbus Gas Light Company where he was head of the Collection Department. Jack has lived in Columbus since 1945 and was a longtime member of Edgewood Baptist Church and the Encourager’s Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Smith Pierce, siblings, Jeanette Farris, Marie Doyle, June Bush, Ned Pierce and Jimmy Pierce.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Daniello of Coral Springs, FL. two grandsons, Joseph Daniello, and Vincent Daniello, a granddaughter, Valerie Daniello, great nephew Stewart Mills and wife Paula of Auburn, AL, sister-in-law, Katie Pierce of Columbus, GA and several nieces and nephews.
