Irvin Allen “Bubber” Tillery, Jr. 86, of Columbus, GA, Passed away Friday, July 22, 2016. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church Porter Chapel, Columbus, GA Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10:00 am with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Monday, July 25, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Mr. Tillery was born in Columbus, GA to Irvin A. and Ruth Compton Tillery on October 16, 1929. He was educated in Columbus public schools, graduating from Jordan High School in February 1947.
He spent his entire working career in the textile industry involved in the procurement and delivery of raw cotton to local Textile mills. He was a Cotton Buyer for Swift Spinning Mills and retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills in January 1994.
Mr. Tillery, a Baptist and member of Rose Hill Baptist Church for over 42 years, served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School Classes for a number of years. He has been an active member of First Baptist Church and the Bob Scarbrough Sunday School Class since September 2002.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and son of 61 years, Mildred Price Tillery and Robert A. Tillery. Survivors include daughter in-law Claire Adams Tillery Honan and her husband Terry, of Eufaula, AL; grandchildren Claire Prince of Brevard, NC, Robert A. Tillery, Jr. and his wife Nickie, and Andrew A. Tillery and his wife Jessica, all of Columbus, GA; great grandchildren, Cate and Franke Prince, and Brooke, Abby, Rachael, Mae, and Annie Tillery.
