(SGT USAF RET) Henry Lewis Carswell 79, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully at Brookside Glen Assisted Living and Memory Care in Columbus, GA. A celebration of Lewis’ Life will be held Friday, February 17, 2023, in the ST ELMO room of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4171 Macon Rd Columbus, GA. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 2:00 pm with a service at 3:00 pm. A committal service and burial will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery Monday, February 20, 2023, at 9:30 am EST.
Lewis was born in Atlanta, GA to his late parents Henry Lewis Sr. and Ileta Lorene Carswell. He served his country proudly in the US Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He continued his service in the Air Force Reserves until his retirement in 2003. Lewis was employed by Tom’s Foods as the print shop manager and a maintenance mechanic in the bakery. Lewis led a happy life and enjoyed camping and working in his wood shop. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. Lewis was always happy when they were around. He enjoyed old westerns, true crime shows, and loved Star Trek. Lewis will always be remembered as a loving husband, dad, granddad, brother and friend.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jessie Marie Cannon and Frances Elizabeth Griffis. A brother, Robert Foster Carswell, Sr.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Harris Carswell; children, Lori Kay Wilkins, Daniel Lewis Carswell, Charles Lewis Carswell and four grandchildren. A brother, Willard Curtis Carswell, and his wife Elizabeth, and nieces and nephews.
