Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2011 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend Gene Forehand officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
SFC (Ret.) Baez was born September 25, 1930 in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. He retired from the United States Army after 25 years of distinguished service. SFC (Ret.) Baez was a veteran of the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations which include, The Bronze Star; Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, and one Gold Star; Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Korean Service Medal and the Purple Heart. SFC (Ret.) Baez also retired from the State of Georgia as an Executive Chef and was a member of North Highland Assembly of God. He loved to cook, loved animals, and was known for his kindness and generosity to everyone he met.
Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Enid Baez; two sons, Enrico Baez and his wife, Becky, and Kenneth Baez and his wife, Ruth; six grandchildren Matthew, Mason, Bryant, David, Crystal, and Amber; four brothers and sister in laws, Hector and Monika Rivera, Jose Rivera, Gladys Webb, and Milagros Rivera; seven nieces and nephews, Tracy Webb, Angie Rivera, Robert Rivera, Leslie Parker, Elizabeth Rivera, Robert Tyler Rivera, and Monika Paige Rivera.
