A memorial service will be held Monday, July 18th at 2:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Columbus, Georgia with Senior Pastor Thad Haygood officiating. The family will greet friends in Stockwell Hall immediately following the memorial service.
Doug was born December 1, 1962. He was a graduate of Hardaway High School. He attended Auburn University and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Doug began his career at Neal Brother’s Tire Company where he worked for many years. He then went on to become Senior Vice President at J. Smith Lanier which later became Marsh and McLennan, where he dedicated over 27 years. Doug and his family have been members of St. Luke United Methodist Church for 29 years, where he taught Kindergarten Sunday School for 10 years. Doug served on the board for St. Luke School and Open Door Community House.
Doug was a loving father and devoted husband for 29 years, leading his family spiritually and teaching his children the importance of integrity, compassion, perseverance, and accountability. He was so proud of his children and supported them in any activity they participated in, especially their sports. Doug supported Auburn University and rarely missed a football game. Doug and his family loved spending their time together at Lake Martin in Alabama. He was an avid quail hunter while also enjoying fishing and playing golf with his friends. Doug knew how to live each day to its fullest. Despite his 7 ½ year battle with cancer, he maintained an inspiring, positive attitude and cherished every moment he had with his family and friends.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Jack Douglas Schorr and Jeannette Stanton Schorr and aunt, Lillie Ann Myers.
He is survived by his wife Ainslie Schorr; three children, Stanton Schorr, Virginia Schorr, and Ben Schorr; siblings Lou Ellen (Cristobal) Lopez, Spencer (Kim) Schorr, and Brad (Lori) Schorr; uncle Luther (Beth); father-in-law Burney Baldwin; sister-in-law, Heidi Edge (Scott); brother-in-law, Pierce Baldwin, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
