COLUMBIA - A celebration of life service for Vera Alexander Dempsey, 78, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2018, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Vera was born October 23, 1939 in Scranton, SC, the daughter of Marshall B. and Estelle Curry Alexander. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. One of her best qualities was that she possessed a servant’s heart, which was shown in her love and devotion for helping others. Vera retired from AAFES as the Director of Human Resources in 2000. After retirement, she volunteered at Lexington Medical Center and enjoyed spending time with her bible study group.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Jesse Prosser, Ruth Wise and Clyde Alexander. Survivors include her husband, James “Jack” Dempsey; their children, Tamra Campbell (Curt), Andy Dempsey (Francie), Jennifer Dempsey; a granddaughter, Evan Campbell; granddog, Ruby; her siblings, Joe Alexander, Len Alexander and Lucille Rodgers.
