Formerly a resident of DuBois, PA, Sylvia enjoyed living out the dream of her beloved husband of more than 60 years, Bill, of soaking in the warmth of the Carolinas over the past two years.
Born on March 29, 1934, near Lock Haven, PA, the daughter of Leah Shady and Harry Royer, Sylvia became a self-taught gifted pianist, talented seamstress, and one heck of a cook. She loved sharing her recipes and kitchen skills with her three daughters, seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Sylvia was also known as a lover of hummingbirds, hosting the symbols of joy and happiness on her front porch as they joined her for songs of praise and worship.
Sylvia's most admirable accomplishment was her knowledge of God's Word, and putting her knowledge of God's Word into action through the way she loved others, and that her relationship with Christ brought the next three generations of her family to know and love Jesus. She constantly learned new things about God throughout her entire 90 years, being a great role model of what our lives with God are supposed to be like. She blessed so many during a variety of church gatherings, and her time ministering to patients and their families in the hospital, a true prayer warrior. Her family is so grateful to have had that example just living with them.
As Sylvia joins her husband, William M. Young, and their son, Harry, she is survived by three daughters: Valerie (Paul) Barndt of Columbia, SC; Julia (David) Small of Carlisle, PA; and Patti (Andy) Spicher of Falls Creek, PA; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
