COLUMBIA - Rosalie Baker Dean was welcomed into the gates of heaven by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 1, 2024 after being loved and cared for in her home by her three children, Prisma Health Hospice and some very special caretakers at All Ways Caring.
Rosalie “Rosebud” was born on December 3, 1940 in Oakland, California. Following graduation from Amador Valley High School, she joined the U.S. Navy and was sent to Great Lakes, Illinois. While stationed at Great Lakes she met and married the love of her life, Alton, and they were happily married for over 48 years.
She and her husband lived in several states in the early years of their marriage but settled in Columbia, South Carolina in 1970. While her children were school age Rosalie attended and graduated Palmer College and after graduation took a civil service position at Fort Jackson as a Trainee Specialist. After 28 years of service with the Trainee Branch she took an early retirement to take care of her husband who had several chronic health conditions.
Rosalie was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family faithfully. She was an extremely selfless person who continually sacrificed to be able to provide for the best life for her children. Rosalie loved arts and crafts including sewing, crocheting, cross stitch and in the past 15 years had become an avid scrapbooker and spent much time making albums full of memories for her loved ones. She was also a passionate sports fan and could be found at any moment cheering the South Carolina Gamecocks or the Atlanta Braves. Her greatest love however was for her family whom she cherished time with as well as her precious “Angel”, the Chihuahua that never left her side.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Scott Dean (Kristy) of Lexington, S.C., Carol Dean Tuten (Sid) of Columbia, S.C., and Paul Lee Dean (Brandy) of Elgin, S.C.; stepchildren, Dr. William E. Rigsby (Luanne) of Watkinsville, Ga., Michael Revere of Sylva, N.C.; her beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Kristopher Dean (Danielle), Benjamin Dean, Chase Dean (Sarah), Cassandra Dean (Adrian), Virginia Berts (Philippos), Jennifer LaFitte (Charlton), Erin Peden (Nolan), Hayden Tuten, Brandon Dunaway (Angela), Scott Rigsby (Sara), Tom Rigsby, Andy Revere, Sadie Revere, and Dawn Dean and fifteen beautiful great-grandchildren.
