Nora Oeland Frye

COLUMBIA - Nora Ann Oeland Frye, 86, died Friday, September 15, 2017. A lifelong resident of Columbia, she was the only child of the late William J. & India P. Oeland and the widow of R. Lawrence Frye, Jr. Nora was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and, prior to devoting her time to her family, she taught third grade at Logan and South Kilbourne elementary schools. A smart and talented lady, she was a devout member of Main Street United Methodist Church, an avid bridge player, and an active member of the Pedal Pushers Garden Club. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, R. Lawrence Frye, Jr. and her daughter, Amy W. Frye. She is survived by her son, William L. Frye and his partner, Jason M. Carpenter. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Main Street United Methodist with interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 1801 Main Street, Columbia SC 29201.Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Chapel is assisting the family.
