Nancy Clark Roberts

COLUMBIA Nancy Clark Roberts, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Born August 23, 1929 in Columbia, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Waddell Clark and Bessie Walker Clark. Nancy was the loving wife of the late Dr. Walter James Roberts, Jr. They were happily married for 53 years. Walter preceded her in death in 2006. She was a proud and devoted mother to her four beautiful children. She is survived by her three sons, Mr. Walter James Roberts, III of Chapin, S.C. (Sherri), Dr. Michael Clark Roberts of Columbia, S.C. (Sandy), and Mr. Steven Mosely Roberts of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. (Mary Lynn). Her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth “Bess” Roberts preceded her in death in 2007. Nancy is also survived by her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Nancy grew up in Columbia, S.C. and graduated from Columbia High School. She attended Mary Washington College and later graduated from University of South Carolina School of Social Work. She was a social worker in Charleston, S.C. while her husband attended medical school, and later spent time in real estate sales for Bob Capes Realty in Columbia, S.C.

Nancy was an avid golfer, once a Ladies Club Champion, and heavily involved with the Ladies Golf Association at Spring Valley Country Club. She loved tailgating and attending USC football and basketball games, and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and friends. Despite Nancy notoriously burning the biscuits, she cherished her time surrounded by family for Sunday dinners. She was also known for cooking her infamous “FatBurgers” on Saturdays for her children and all their friends. Nancy loved to laugh, and she was adored for quick-witted sense of humor and genuine kindness to everyone.

A service and celebration of her life will be held for family and close friends later in August. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Heart Association or Camp Cole in her memory.
