Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at New Creation Baptist Church formerly Woodfield Park Baptist Church, 1834 Morninglo Lane, Columbia, SC 29223 with burial to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church.
Marie was born the youngest of nine children on December 4, 1933 in Blacksburg, Virginia to Samuel Clarence and Nettie Smith Lafon. After marrying the love of her life, Ted Oliver, he joined the Army and their adventures began. She was a devoted military spouse for 22 years. Marie was a huge Atlanta Braves fan and loved her church family. Most importantly, she adored her family and was blessed to be called MawMaw.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband; Theodore “Ted” Oliver, and her eight siblings. Those left to cherish her memories include her three children, Cathy Kemmerlin (James), Bruce Oliver (Royetta), Paula King (David); six grandchildren, Valerie Harris (Corby), Chris Oliver (Kristin), Bryan Oliver, Christina Ross, Austin King (Alex) Sarah King; three great grandchildren, Garrett, Abigail and Avery.
