She graduated from Mars Hill College and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Furman University. Her graduate work in music was done at the University of N.C. at Chapel Hill, she received a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina.
Mrs. Yandell taught and directed the chorus at McLaurin Jr. High School in Sumter, S.C. where she was also active in the Sumter Little Theater. She taught and directed choruses in both the Junior and Senior High Schools in Chapel Hill, N.C. She was director of church choirs at First Baptist Church in Southern Pines, N.C., First Presbyterian Church in Orangeburg, S.C. and Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia. She was teacher at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church Kindergarten, director of the Kilbourne Park Baptist Pre-school and taught at Horrell Hill Elementary School in Richland School District 1 until her retirement in 1993.
After her retirement she served as a volunteer docent at the S.C. State Museum, delivered Meals on Wheels and was volunteer at Shandon Presbyterian Church where she has been a member since 1976. At Shandon she was a choir member, Sunday School teacher, Circle Leader, Global Missions Chairman for the Presbyterian Women, served as the Long Range Planning Committee and was a Steven Minister. She was honored by the Women of the Church with a Life Membership in 2006.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Byrum, a son, John Yandell, two grandchildren; Joshua Yandell, Lilly Yandell, a sister-in-law, Polly Miller and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Yandell, her parents Ralph and Rowena Lee, her sisters, Jane Froneberger and Lorena Lee.
