Margaret McElveen Brown

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Margaret McElveen Brown, 95, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mrs. Brown died Thursday, August 1, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Margaret Lindsay McElveen and Henry Moody McElveen.

She graduated from Davis Academy and from Draughon’s Business School. On June 5th, 1947, she married Robert Lacy Brown. She was employed by the highway department until 1949 and then became a stay-at-home mother and raised 5 children.

She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and the Frank Harden Sunday School Class. She volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and Washington Street Methodist’s Soup Kitchen. As an adult, she took classes at Columbia College.

Surviving are her children, Chris (Mimi) Brown, Marnie Cooper, Anne (Richard) Coker, Gene (Russ Cline) Brown, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and her oldest son, Robert Lacy Brown, Jr.
