Columbia, SC - A visitation service for Jay Kelly Fain, Sr., age 72, will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, located at 4219 Hardscrabble Road. A funeral service will follow immediately at 5:00 pm after the visitation.
Burial services will take place the following day, Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. It will also be livestreamed at https://fb.watch/wBlhiPa-0T/ Those wishing to join the procession are invited to arrive at 10:00 a.m. to follow the family to the cemetery.
CSM Jay Kelly Fain, Sr., known affectionately as "Kelly" to his family and friends, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Born on September 23, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas, but a native to Shreveport, Louisiana, he was the son of Marshall Powell and Vera (Coggins) Fain.
CSM Fain graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelors in Political Science and Asian Studies, and went on to serve his country with honor and distinction for 36 years in the United States Army. He retired as the U.S. Army Adjutant General Command Sergeant Major, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.
CSM Fain was a man of simple joys. He loved playing golf, immersing himself in video games, enjoying Marvel movies, and, most of all, cherishing time with his beloved family. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, he was deeply loved and respected by those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Daniel Fain. CSM Fain is survived by his wife of 41 years, Son Soon “Kim” Fain; his daughter, Kimberly Ann Fain; his son, Jay Kelly Fain, Jr. (Kaila); and his sisters, Sheila Anderson (Andy) and Gail Cox.
