Jim was born in Wabash, Indianna to Anna and James Shaw. He earned two degrees in Aeronautical Engineering- a Bachelor’s from the University of Michigan and a Master’s from the University of Colorado. Jim married Nancy Ann Gross 55 years ago. He was a devoted husband. Together they had a son, Ryan Patrick. Jim was a loving and caring father. He would travel two hours to watch Ryan play basketball, follow the team bus home, and be up early in the morning for work the next day. This is an example of the lengths to which Jim would go in showing support for his son. Jim was employed as an engineer for many years, working right up to his most recent illness. He fought a more than yearlong heroic battle against cancer. Jim had many interests outside of his career including studying the genealogy of his extended family and working for Habitat for Humanity.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and son, Ryan. Additionally, he is survived by; his brothers John (Sharon) and Douglas (Effie); his sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Denmon (James) and Katherine Marquette; nieces and nephews Megan, Elizabeth, Tara, Rebecca, Kyle, Taylor, Brittany, Evan, Annie, and Molly, as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
Jim’s family thanks the staffs at SCOA’s and Prisma Health Richland Hospital/Hospice and Jessie Allen Clanton, MD. For those who wish to make a remembrance they may do so to Habitat for Humanity in Jim’s name with the family’s gratitude.
