Eric George Thompson

Eric is survived by his mother, Joanne Thompson, and his brother, Kris Thompson, both of Columbia. He is also survived by his constant companion, Bubba the Golden Retriever, star of his Instagram feed and affectionately called “Bubbles” by Eric. He is predeceased by his father, Larry Thompson, and his grandmother, Jackie Kilgore.

Eric was born in Columbia in May 1986 to Larry and Joanne Thompson. He attended Dreher High School. A fixture in the nightlife of Columbia, Eric was a popular bartender at several of the hot spots in Columbia over the years. Most recently, he became partial owner and General Manager of the Pinch Bar in Five Points. During the recent coronavirus pandemic, he chose to use his forced free time to go to Nashville to work to help repair areas destroyed by recent tornados and then moved to work in Savannah in the recent days.

Eric was a very giving, kind and compassionate person. He was the life of the party and always the smartest and funniest guy in the room. His smile would win over even the most stubborn resistance he encountered. He was always the first to organize a fundraiser for a friend in need. He was also an avid sports fan, with his favorite teams being the Carolina Panthers and the Carolina Gamecocks. He was always dressed head to toe in his favorite team gear on game days and didn’t miss a chance to attend home games here in Columbia and in Charlotte. He enjoyed fine dining, an expensive pair of Yeezy’s and traveling to any beautiful beach setting. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
