Mrs. Davis passed away June 11, 2014. Born July 4, 1940, in Orangeburg, S.C., she was the daughter of the late J. Douglas Eldridge and Fairy Hall Eldridge. She graduated from Dreher High School in 1958 and attended the University of South Carolina. In 1960, she married George H. Davis, Jr. and lived in Columbia for many years. Diane taught ceramics for seven years in her own studio, and taught various art classes. She was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Columbia. Diane was also a charter member Youth Study and an active member of Child Study, garden club, bridge club and the Junior Woman’s Club.
She later joined Forest Lake Presbyterian Church where she and her husband attended for a number of years. Her one true delight was her Girlfriend’s Club, where she faithfully attended gatherings with many lifelong friends. Diane loved her family, both two-legged and four-legged. She enjoyed painting, scrapbooking, jewelry making and entertaining. Her Valentine’s Day parties were legendary.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, George H. Davis, Jr.; daughter, Cindy Davis Pearce (Richard) of Aiken; son, Brad Davis (Brenda) of Washington, N.C.; grandchildren, Melissa Pearce of Columbia, Trent Davis and Mandy Davis both of Washington; and her faithful canine companions, Nugget and Dobie.
Memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206 or to a charity of one’s choice.
