COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Deborah “Debbie” Richardson Fletcher, 67, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Trinity Church, 1501 Hallbrook Drive, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at Trinity.
Mrs. Fletcher died Friday, August 20, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Brown Richardson and Betty Williams Richardson. She graduated from Dreher High School in 1970 and was a pipe organ major at Furman University. Debbie was involved for nearly forty years in various children’s church ministries, including Forest Drive Baptist Church and Trinity Church. She was famous with adults and children as the distinctive personality and voice of her puppet, “Buffy”. Debbie passionately loved Jocassee, authored two books about it, and is lovingly remembered by people all over the state as “Jocassee Girl”.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Dave Fletcher; her children, Melissa Erin Fletcher and Pam Gardner (Steven); grandchildren Miranda, Olivia, Avi, Ben David, Eden, Annabel, Adalee, Sarah Bethany, and Nethaniel; and brother, James B. Richardson, Jr.
