He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 23 years of dedicated service as a highly respected, decorated Sergeant Major. While in the Marine Corps, Sgt Maj Morris served in Niger, Africa and Keflavik, Iceland under American Embassy duty, as well as proudly served his country in San Diego, California, Jacksonville, North Carolina until he retired in Syracuse NY.
Upon retirement, he remained very involved and active with the Marine Corp Toys for Tots Program and was a lifetime Devil Dog member.
He was a dedicated Marine, Father, Pops, and friend. David was known for his willingness to always provide support to anyone in need. You would never see him without one of his many Marine Corps hats and never missed an opportunity to stop and talk with a fellow veteran thanking them for their service. No one was ever a stranger. David was a motorcycle enthusiast owning both Harley and Indian cruisers in his lifetime.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Sims; 4 grandsons, Jacob, Luken, Ethan, Skyler; and one granddaughter, Elliana; as well as brother, Larry Morris and sister, Catherine Sidoli.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents and older brother, Joseph Swider II.
A graveside service will be held for David at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229.
Family would like to thank the all staff at Lexington Medical Center for the care provided. As well as the local VFW for their continued support during this time.
