COLUMBIA - A memorial service for David Alan Harms will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with a short graveside service after in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Harms, 70, of Hopkins, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 16, 2024. Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Glenn Duane Harms and Mary Jo Smith Harms.
David graduated from Lower Richland High School where he played soccer, was on the JV and Varsity track teams as well as being a member of the Key Club. Soon after high school, he went to work at Schneider Electric, formerly Square D, where he worked 49 years until retirement. While working full time at Schneider, he also took on a part time job at the State newspaper as a Drop Captain where his sons often worked by his side during early morning hours.
He was a member of Shandon Baptist Church. David loved ice cream and milkshakes. Often asking his wife to stop on the way home from work to grab one of them. He looked forward to the beach and going to his condo each summer. Most of all, he was proud of his sons, their accomplishments, the families they created, and his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Gail Lacroix-Harms; daughter, Danielle Harms; three sons, Daniel Harms (Olivia), Austin Harms (Amanda), and Addison Harms (Chelsea); six grandchildren, Tyler, Grayson, Faith, Joy, Parker, and Skylar; sister, Catherine Stansill (Robert “Bob”); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William “Bill” Harms.
