COLUMBIA - Charles Hazel Myers, Jr. passed of progressive supranuclear palsy. Born in Camden, SC to Lou Clyburn & Charles Hazel Myers, Sr. He was the oldest of 4 children. He attended schools in both Camden and Columbia, SC. He attended Eau Clair High School; upon obtaining his GED left school for a job as a “B” line mechanic for Kato’s Garage. As an adult he lived in Columbia, SC and Green Mountain, NC.
Charles worked as a gas/diesel mechanic, photographer, and trucker. He retired from R. C. McEntire Trucking around 2011. He worked for Day Star Truck Repair for several years afterwards. Ending his work life as Vice President of Valkyrie Services Inc. He began his Masonic journey with Dentsville AFM # 398, completing with Little Mountain AFM # 281, Columbia York Rite Commandry #2 and Union Council #5. Mr. Myers served in the US Navy and was given a general discharge in 1957.
Charles was a nationally published photographer. He enjoyed performance motorcycles, cars, and trucks. He was a fan of drag racing, Bonneville Salt Flat trials, road course, and Isle of Man racing challenges. He often stated, “If it doesn’t increase the performance, it is useless trinkets” and “I’ve never put an engine back together without increasing its capabilities”.
Charles loved jokes and pranks. He searched for opportunities to perform. Some of his nieces & nephews referred to him as “Uncle Funny”. If a joke nor a prank was applicable, he would employ the famous rabbit trick or ear coin sleight of hand.
