COLUMBIA Carolyn Harris Riddick, 87, affectionately known as Caky, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023, surrounded by her family. A gracious lady and Godly woman, she will forever remain in our hearts. We are comforted knowing she is sharing in the many blessings of heaven.
Born in Gaffney, she was a daughter of the late Jonas Clifford and Mabel Scruggs Harris. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 wonderful years, Patrick Henry Riddick, and her sister, Peggy Harris Marshall.
She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Converse College and Lander University. She retired from Richland Two School District and taught at Windsor and Pontiac Elementary Schools, where she positively impacted the lives of many young children.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was an active member of the Women of the Church (WOC), participating in Circle, the Encouragers Group and communion preparation. She attended Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study, where she studied and grew in her love for the Lord. She loved to travel with friends, shop, and enjoyed listening to music. Her greatest joy was found in serving others.
Most of all, she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, attending their events, playing games, sharing meals she lovingly prepared, beach trips to Litchfield and creating new memories. Her laughter and joy were infectious and time with her was always special with the love only she could give.
She spent her last 8 years in the Laurel Crest Retirement Community where she was blessed by the love and care of the amazing caregivers and entire staff. Special thanks to Cessandra Carter, Catherine Goodwine, Jackie Sims and Theresa Rogers who loved on her daily and will forever be a part of our family.
Surviving are her devoted children: son, Hank Riddick and his wife, Lynne; daughters, Lynn Riddick Harvin and husband, Lee, and Peggy Riddick; grandchildren, Kelly Kirby (David), Steven Harvin (Lauren), Claire Harvin (fiancé Alex Johnson), and Bryan Riddick (Caroline), all of Greenville, S.C. and Lindsey Nagel (TJ) of Columbia, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Emma, Harris and Robert Kirby, Trey Harvin, Fourth Nagel, and Grayson and Celia Riddick.
