LEXINGTON - Mrs. Carmen Dessau passed away October 10, 2017 in Lexington, South Carolina. Carmen was born in Del Rio, Texas on December 5, 1930, the daughter of Gertrude and Cesar Gonzalez. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ralph B Dessau. Carmen studied at Sacred Heart in Del Rio and then Trinity University in San Antonio. She came to lead a very international life. First, she was in Poland shortly after the Second World War visiting her Aunt and Uncle who were diplomats posted to Warsaw. Next, she visited Denmark where for a while she was a studying the art of painting porcelain at Royal Copenhagen. Her life would take her to reside in numerous destinations including Venezuela, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, France, the island of Bonaire, Panama and ultimately South Carolina. Carmen was a member of Damas Escandinavas and the Audubon Club in Caracas, Venezuela. In Houston, Carmen was active with the Alliance Francaise. While living in Boca Raton, she we active with the garden club and the International Chinese Snuff Bottle Society. In the 60’s she was a volunteer at the Stamford Hospital in Connecticut with their cancer ward. Carmen enjoyed raising orchids wherever she lived. Carmen was able to make friends wherever she lived.
