COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Barbara Rice Turbeville will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, with the burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the burial at the home of Bill and Megan Turbeville. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Turbeville died Sunday, March 19, 2017. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Clay Rice and Katherine Godley Rice. A graduate of Dreher High School, she attended Winthrop University. She was the owner of Edens Turbeville Insurance Agency and Mathews Insurance Agency. She served on the Board of Richland Memorial Hospital for 10 years. She was a founding member of Trenholm Road UMC, and served on many committees including the Staff Parish Committee. Barbara was also active in the Republican Party. A lifelong Gamecock fan and a Silver Spur donor, she attended many football and basketball games. In her spare time, she loved going to the beach, golfing, gardening, playing Bridge, and traveling. She considered Fripp Island her slice of heaven. Surviving are her son, William L. “Bill” Turbeville, Jr. (Megan) of Columbia; daughters, Kathy T. Whittington and Sandy T. Harris of Lake Wateree, S.C., Pebbles Turbeville of Laurenburg, N.C.; sister, Melba Reeves of Columbia; sister-in-law, Bruce Rice of Beaufort, S.C.; grandchildren, William L. Turbeville, III, Shannon L. Turbeville, Patrick Turbeville, Kelly Turbeville, Michael Turbeville and Trapp Harris (Amanda); step-grandchildren, Morgan G. Hunt (Casey) and M. Ryan Grandy (Jodi); great-grandchild, Ace Harris; a wonderful niece and many nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William L. Turbeville, Sr. and her brother, Francis Rice.
