Mrs. Grossberg died Sunday, December 15, 2024. Born in Williamsport, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Emanuel A. Circle and Minnie Epstein Circle.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the university of Missouri. Following that she attended the university of Connecticut for a Masters degree in Social Work. She had a long career in Social Work that focused on the Jewish Community. After moving to Columbia, South Carolina she worked as a shelter director for Sistercare, then director of the Midlands Mental Health Association. The apex of her career was building the social work professional services for Richland School District 2 from scratch and ultimately was awarded the Order of the Flame in recognition of her vast contributions to the district.
Barbara had soft heart for animals and children, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and all things related to the culinary arts. She had a large circle of friends spanning the country and was very generous person.
Surviving are her husband, Alexander Grossberg; son, Ron Grossberg, and daughter, Shoshanna Grossberg-Thornton (Dontae), both of Columbia, SC; brother, Lynn Circle of Houston, Texas; granddaughters, Shayna Grossberg, Gianna Thornton and Aria Thornton of Columbia, SC; niece, Michelle Circle; cousin, Alan Levin of Chicago; and very close family friends Annette Kandel, Amy Teramoto, Kristin Patterson.
