COLUMBIA Graveside service for Anne Goodwin Thompson, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2015, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mrs. Thompson died Sunday, January 11, 2015. Born in Suffolk, Va., she was a daughter of the late Theodore Winston and Bruce Edwards Goodwin. She attended Hand Jr. High and graduated from old Columbia High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of S.C., where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduation, she married Billy Thompson and continued as a homemaker until his death in 1969. She then returned to the University of S.C. where she earned her Master’s degree in Education. She taught at Dreher High School and was a school administrator and teacher at Hopkins Jr. High School. She loved to cook, had a passion for reading and was a lifelong learner. Surviving are her daughter, Susan T. Moll (Raymond) of Charlotte, N.C.; one grandchild, Ashley Thompson Jordan (Michael) of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Cayleigh and Aubreigh Jordan; daughter-in-law, Deborah Thompson of Columbia. She was predeceased by her husband, James William Thompson Jr. and a son, James William “Bill” Thompson III. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at both Atria Forest Lake and Regency Retirement Village for their love and support. In addition, the family appreciates the compassion and care provided by Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte.
