Mac Arthur Spell, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born in Waycross, Georgia to Dan and Annie Spell and has been a resident of Columbia since 1975. Mac was a U.S. Army veteran who served our country with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He was a Mason and member of St. Albans Masonic Lodge #60 in Columbia. He was known for his great sense of humor and had a gift to always be able to make people laugh. Mac had a heart as big as Texas and was very generous. He would help anyone who had a need. He was very loyal to his friends, would stand up for anyone who needed support, and was always looking out for the underdog. Mac will be remembered for his generosity, vigilance, and service to his friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Spell; and two brothers, Carlos Spell and Arvin Spell. Mac is survived by a son Keith “Bo” Spell; a sister, Mildred Dunaway; a nephew, Danny Carver; and his best friend, Joe Van Parkman.
The funeral service will be at Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00am where friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until service time. Mac will be laid to rest in the Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 2:30pm.
