I was thinking about when we first arrived in the Midway area and our daughter had Sue for her first teacher at Midway Heights. Such a sweet and gentle, caring teacher. A perfect fit for our scared and sensitive daughter.  Before long we hit it off with her and Jerry, and they invited us to play bridge. Jerry and I worked together as I set up Rainbow House in Columbia, and our friendship with him and Sue lasted the rest of their lives.  What a blessing and privilege to know and love them. They are still missed by many, in addition to all their family.  God Bless.

Sue was a trusted and loyal faculty member and second grade teacher at Midway Heights Elementary School for many years.  Sue was always ready for her busy day with students  and provided many opportunities for learning.  She loved her students and her chosen career.  I can still hear her laugh in the classroom and at faculty meetings.  She will be missed.

Mrs. Brewer taught three of my children.  She was such a great teacher and encouraged them to work hard but they all said she made learning fun. I was a room mother and loved having parties with Mrs. Brewer. I also knew her husband Jerry as I was a foster parent.  Both were exceptional people.  I pray the family will remember and be comforted by all the children who loved Mrs. Brewer.

 Aunt Sue was a very sweet and always kind lady. She will be missed deeply.  Words can't mend your heartache but those who care share in your loss

Mrs. Brewer was my first teacher after moving into the Midway district.  She made me feel welcome and that meant the world to me as an 8 year old kid who was brand new and didn’t know anyone.  I have memories watching Reading Rainbow and her teaching us cursive handwriting.  She was a teacher who cared about her students and after 32 years I am grateful for all the kindness and love she gave to a scared 8 year old girl. 

Mrs. Brewer was my first teacher at Midway in 1979 after my family relocated to Midway (Columbia)  from St. Louis. I remember her as a generous, precise,  kind and always had high standards. What am amazing teacher!!!! I know she made a difference in the lives of many, many children. 

Our dear cousin Norma Sue was the first cousin of my mother Sherry Simer DeSilva.  She was much beloved by my mother.   Norma Sue and my mother grew up and were as sisters.  Through the kindness of Norma Sue’s parents my mother Sherry  lived with the Jones family for several years.   A year before my mother died we took the trip to Columbia Missouri to visit Norma Sue.  It was such a happy occasion for both my mother, Norma Sue and I.  My mother was an avid writer and sent many letters and received many letters from Norma Sue and other cousins.   Her Obituary reflected what a lovely and caring person she was.

my  husband Mark and our daughter Andrea,  sisters Amy Clarke,  Allison DeSilva, and Penny Forner.


Mrs Brewer was my second grade teacher at Midway in the mid 80s. I remember her class with delight! What a wonderful woman and such a legacy she has left. My condolences to the family –

When we moved to Midway from southern California in 1979, Sue was already teaching second grade at Midway Heights, where we enrolled our daughter Steffie. We were licensed foster parents, and got to know Jerry in that role. Our friendship as couples was solidified over soup dinners and bridge games, as well as our mutual desire to improve the foster system in Boone County. That resulted, ultimately, in the founding of Rainbow House.  Sue's gentle encouragement and Jerry's excellent professional advice were invaluable.  RIP Sue.

She was a strong & kind woman who left a memorable impact on me as my 2nd grade teacher at Midway Heights Elementary and my prayers go out to her friends & family.

Aunt Susie had the spirit of a loving heart and will continue to live in our memories .....

May you all take comfort in the sweet memories of a beautiful life.
