Stephen “Steve” Lyle Carter was an avid lover of Jesus, enthusiast for helping others, and an author. He devoted his life to allowing the Lord to use him to help “reduce the suffering,” he quoted as being his mission in life. On December 27, 2023 Steve’s medical condition took him away from this world but he continues his spiritual existence in heaven in the presence of Jesus, his mother Lois Cooksey, his father Kyle Carter as well as his son Jonathan Carter.
Steve is survived by his wife Rose Carter; children Octavia, Kyle, Angela and Stephanie; grandchildren Jase, Allie, Eli, Connor and Jorden along with extended family in California and Oregon.
Steve was born on October 31, 1955 in Springfield, Missouri. He began his passion for music at a young age, teaching himself how to play a right handed guitar upside down and reversed (given he was left handed) as well as the drums which lead him playing in many bands, opening for country artist Shania Twain and being offered a record deal from RCA. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to accept the contract at the time. The record deal was an honor and also exemplifies his passion and skill for playing music, a skill which is prominent in his legacy.
Steve‘s passion for Jesus, family and friends, helping others, music, creativity, humor, intelligence and his value of being oneself unbounded by mainstream ideas will always be remembered. He was also admired for being studious, having earned a Master’s Degree of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Bachelor’s Degree in General Education with a Minor in Business Administration and an Associate’s Degree of Science in Electronics Technology. Steve also earned credits towards a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing, School of English as well a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy with a Major in Psychology.
Steve will always be remembered and forever in our hearts.
“Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)
