Loving husband, father, and brother, Robert "Bob" Wayne Heidenreich of Columbia, Missouri passed away on November 27, 2022, at his home. Bob was born on January 24, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa to Leo and Alice Heidenreich. He grew up on the family farm in Plymouth, Iowa, and graduated from Newman Catholic High School in Mason City in 1964.
Eager to see the world, Bob joined the United States Navy in 1964, serving honorably for seven years - a portion of that time on the USS Spadefish, a Sturgeon-class submarine. He continued to serve his country in the United States Navy Reserve until he retired in 1995 at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
After leaving active duty, Bob worked at the VA Medical Center in Columbia for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2003 as the Operations Foreman.
Bob enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He knew when the neighborhood deer would be walking through the valley behind his home each evening and was often amused by the pictures the trail camera captured in the early-morning hours. Hunting trips to Swiss, Missouri with family and friends were special occasions. Bob enjoyed the "camping" and naps while on the look-out for deer in the woods.
Bob was an active member of the Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club for many years, proudly serving as the club's president for six years. He enjoyed assisting with the annual Bianchi Cup Championship held at the club and meeting the world-class pistol shooters who competed.
Bob was a life-time member and supporter of the NRA. He was a member of the committee that created the first ever Friends of NRA Banquet in 1992, a fundraising event now held in many cities across the country.
On April 26, 1997, Bob married Judith "Judy" White at their home. Bob and Judy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, taking cross-country road trips, and spending time at their lake house.
Bob will be missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him.
Bob is survived by his wife Judy; children Shelly Halphin, Kristen (Greg) Trainor, Jeffrey (Sophie) Heidenreich, and Amy (Jeff) Grus; grandchildren Katie, Robert, Brian and Abby Halphin; Jack and Madelyn Trainor; Jillian, Emmeline and Allison Heidenreich; and Oliver and Porter Grus; sisters Margaret (Roger) Reiland and Kathy Lutz; brothers-in-law, Donnie and Joe White, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Thomas Heidenreich; son-in-law Doug Halphin; and brother-in-law James Lutz.
A memorial service will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia on Friday, December 9, 2022. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the "Green Valley Rifle & Pistol Club Youth Shooting Sports Foundation," a not-for-profit institution, or the donor's charity of choice.
