Patsy R. Harmon, 88, of Columbia, MO, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at The Bluffs in Columbia, MO. Friends will be received on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 1634 Paris Rd, Columbia, MO. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation at the church. Interment will be after the funeral at Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia, MO. She was born on May 7, 1929 in Cape Girardeau, MO the daughter of Robert and India (Gaither) Baker who preceded her in death. Pat graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and certification to teach English and music and began her teaching career that year. Shortly after, on February 23 1952, she married the love of her life Loyd Harmon in Cape Girardeau. In 1967 Pat moved with her family to Columbia. She taught music education in the Columbia Public School System for 25 years, mostly at Russell Boulevard Elementary School, retiring in 1992. Following her retirement, she continued teaching music in various capacities and followed her passion of traveling with her husband and then later with her friends on bus tours. Pat enjoyed spending time with her friends and would never pass up a lunch date or excuse to get together with those she loved. Pat loved music and would not pass up the opportunity to sit down at a piano and get people to sing and dance along. She continued to play for the church services at The Bluffs until the last few weeks of her life. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Memorial Baptist Church, and too many social groups to count. Pat never passed up a group outing or an excuse to serve others. She never met a stranger and touched countless lives along the way. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Loyd Harmon. Survivors include: one son, Jim Harmon (Jeanne) of Harrisburg, MO; one sister, Hope Forderhase of Jackson, TN; two grandchildren, Eric Harmon of Jefferson City, MO and Angela Drury (Ryan) of Searcy, AR; one nephew, Tim Forderhase (Molly) and three great nieces.
